Dominick D. Critelli, Jr. Annual Scholarships

The International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE) established the Dominick D. Critelli, Jr. scholarship program for students who have demonstrated skills through academic achievement and service to their school and community. IFPTE will be awarding four college scholarships of $2,500 each to children or grandchildren of IFPTE members.

AWARDS
Four (4) annual scholarships of $2,500.00 will be awarded to students who wish to continue their education beyond high school, whether in public and private colleges and universities, community colleges, or technical institutes. The scholarship awards are designed to be used in the following school year and may not be used retroactively or prospectively.

RESTRICTIONS
Children and grandchildren of IFPTE Executive Officers are not eligible for the scholarships. The four annual scholarships will be granted to one child/grandchild from each of the four sectors of IFPTE: private, public, federal, and Canadian. Scholarship winners may not attend any school that discriminates because of race, sex, creed, or color. Only accredited colleges or universities will be acceptable.

ELIGIBILITY
Any child or grandchild of current IFPTE members may apply provided the student is a High School Senior.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE
To apply, a student needs to submit the following:

  1. Official transcripts of high school grades signed by the guidance counselor or school administrator.

  2. Three (3) letters of recommendation

  3. An essay of a minimum of 500 words on the following topic: "What Being a Member of a Union Family Means to Me?"

  4. A completed application form (form is fillable and photocopies are also accepted). Evidence of grades of college entrance exams (ACT or SAT is optional).

PLEASE NOTE: APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED WITHOUT ANY PART OF THE FOUR LISTED ELEMENTS WILL BE CONSIDERED INCOMPLETE AND WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM THE JUDGING. Materials will not be returned.

APPLICATION DEADLINE
The required materials must be postmarked or submitted electronically on or before May 15.

CRITERIA FOR WINNING
Winners will be chosen on the basis of their essays, academic achievement, and school and community activities on the following basis:

Academic Achievement - 20%
Essay - 40%
School/Community Activities - 40%

SELECTION OF WINNERS
Winners will be selected on or about June 30th.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS
Winners will be contacted by phone and mail announcing their scholarship award. Names of the winners will be publicized in IFPTE's online publications and on IFPTE's website at www.ifpte.org. IFPTE also reserves the right to print the winning essays and to cause the winners' names and essays to be printed in other newspapers.

DISTRIBUTION OF AWARDS
Winners of IFPTE scholarships will receive a letter of scholarship and will indicate the amount of the scholarship award. A check for the amount will be forwarded to the financial aid office of the college or university the student will attend.
